Sulfadiazine
1. Sulfadiazine is the first choice drug for the prevention and treatment of meningococcal meningitis (epidemic meningitis).
2. Sulfadiazine is also suitable for the treatment of respiratory infections, intestinal infections and local soft tissue infections caused by sensitive bacteria.
3. Sulfadiazine can also be used to treat nocardiosis , or used in combination with pyrimethamine to treat toxoplasmosis .
This product is white or off-white crystal or powder; odorless and tasteless; its color gradually darkens when exposed to light.
This product is slightly soluble in ethanol or acetone, and almost insoluble in water; it is easily soluble in sodium hydroxide test solution or ammonia test solution, and soluble in dilute hydrochloric acid .
This product is a medium-effective sulfonamide for the treatment of systemic infections . It has a broad antibacterial spectrum and has inhibitory effects on most Gram-positive and negative bacteria. It inhibits Neisseria meningitidis , Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae , and hemolytic Streptococcus . It has a strong effect and can penetrate into the cerebrospinal fluid through the blood-brain barrier.
It is mainly used clinically for meningococcal meningitis and is the drug of choice for the treatment of meningococcal meningitis. It can also treat other infections caused by the above-mentioned sensitive bacteria. It is also often made into a water-soluble sodium salt and used as an injection.
